(Bradney, History of Monmouthshire, vol. 1 p. 339) (Research):KINSHIP: Investigate> Robinson's 'A History of the Mansions and Manors of Herefordshire' page 177 footnote * states "The early ancestry of the Scudamores of Kentchurch is involved in much obscurity, and the existing pedigrees are altogether inconsistent with each other. Cooke (Clarencieux Herald, 1586) deduces the Kentchurch line from Walter de Scudamore, who, in 1149, gave Foulke's mead to Dore Abbey; after him came Godfrey, Elias, Sir Walter, and then Sir Godfrey (living 1325), who m. Maud, heir of John, Lord Giffard of Brimfield and was grandfather of T.S., who m. Ewyas (See «i»Colin's Baronetage«/i», 1720). Another pedigree, has an entirely different line of ancestors, commencing with Sir Alex. Scudamore, living 4 William Rufus, who was succeeded by his son Sir Titus, lord of Troy and Bigswear. (See «i»Burke's Landed Gentry,«/i» ed. 1862) We have followed Leland, and to some extent the latter authority also; but until the union of the Rowlstone and Kentchurch branches the genealogy must be received with caution, and is probably now beyond the reach of thorough investigation".
