| Notes |
- OFFICE: Chief counsellor of Wales. (Lloyd, History of the Princes, the Lords Marcher and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog, vol. 1 p. 84)
CHURCH: He was a great benefactor to the nunnery of Llanllugan. (Lloyd, History of the Princes, the Lords Marcher and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog, vol. 1 p. 84)
CHURCH: He took the religious habit at Strata Florida (Ystrad Fflur), and died and was buried there. (Lloyd, History of the Princes, the Lords Marcher and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog, vol. 1 p. 84)
LIVING: 1211> He sided with Llywelyn ab Iorwerth against King John, and the castle of Kinnerley was taken and demolished by the forces of Llywelyn in 1223, Llywelyn bound himself to give stisfaction for the damage done. Maredudd was one of the hostages given for performance of the agreement. (Lloyd, History of the Princes, the Lords Marcher and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog, vol. 1 p. 83, 84)
LIVING: 1241> He was one of the intercessors with Henry III for the release of Gruffudd ap Llywelyn from his brother Dafydd's custody. (Lloyd, History of the Princes, the Lords Marcher and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog, vol. 1 p. 84)
PROPERTY: Lord of Cedewain. (Dwnn, Heraldic Visitations of Wales, vol. 1 p. 285)
PROPERTY: Sources have different opinions as to how he received the lordship of Cedwain. The first, which is in error, states he brought it from his maternal uncle Madog ap Samwel. The second, according to Lewys Dwnn, states that he received i it from Llywelyn ("Mawr") ab Iorwerth. The third, according to "Brut y Tywysogion, states Henry III gave it to him for his treachery to Llywelyn, by doing homage to himself at Shrewsbury. (Lloyd, History of the Princes, the Lords Marcher and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog, vol. 1 p. 83, 84)
PROPERTY: 1241, Maredudd did homage for his lordship to Henry III who confimed him in it. (Lloyd, History of the Princes, the Lords Marcher and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog, vol. 1 p. 84)
REMARKS: In Wales till the middle of the 12th century individuals were styled 'Arglwydd' meaning lord or master.
- (Research):MARRIAGE: Conflict/Error> Lloyd's 'History of the Princes, the Lords Marcher and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog' volume 1 page 86 gives his wife as Efa ferch Maredudd "Fychan" of Abertanad in Mechain Iscoed, and Lucy (Lleucu) ferch Hwfa, his wife. Time frame wise this seems improbabable.
KINSHIP: Conflict/Error> Bartrum's 'Welsh Genealogies 300-1400' volume 11 page 854 gives him a daughter named Jonet who married Einion ab Ieuaf, but this Jonet was his granddaughter, daughter of his son Owain.
KINSHIP: Conflict/Error> Lloyd's 'History of the Princes, the Lords Marcher and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog' volume 1 page 86 gives him five sons: Owain, Gruffudd, Hywel, Llywelyn (who is shown married to Owain's wife, Margred ferch Maelgwn), and Trahaearn. Only Owain is shown by other sources to be correct.
