- Histrorian Charles Banks lists Capt. Silas Daggett (1757-1825) as the
proprietor of Smith's Tavern. Capt. Daggett was a licensed inn-holder during 1798-1804. He was the son of carpenter Seth Daggett and Elizabeth West of Tisbury, and the husband of Deborah Butler (1759-?) According to Banks, Capt. Daggett moved to Industry, Maine about 1806 "and was a resident there for some years, acting as town clerk in 1809."
