| Notes |
- Wiliiam was 15 when his father died from injuries from a riding accident. He would have probably lived with either his older brother, John (31) or Robert, Jr. (28). John and Robert had petitioned the court for control of their father's land after his death, as he had died intestate, and Robert remained on the family homestead in the Amberson Valley until after the Civil War, at which time he and his wife moved to Page County, Iowa.
William was living in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania at the time of his father's death in 1844. He would have been 15 or 16 years old at the time, so it's possible he was staying with relatives there, or perhaps boarding.
