| Notes |
- In 1844, at the time of her father's death, Nancy was unmarried and living in Toronto, Canada. She was 25, at the time. It is possible there may have been Rea relatives in Toronto at this time, with whom she was staying.
There was a Henry A. Rea living in Kent, Ohio (near Akron) in 1850, when Nancy's brother James was there. It is possible that James was staying with Henry's family in Kent when he met and later married Lucinda Barber there. This same Henry A. ReRea was found in the 1900 Ohio Census, still living in Kent, at the age of 49. According to the census data, this Henry A. Rea was born in Canada, his father was born in New York and his Mother was born in Canada. This suggests that, if there was a relationship (perhaps cousins), then Henry's family came first to New York, then to Canada, then to Ohio and may have been cousins to my family back in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is also possible that Henry's family moved from Pennsylvania to New York. Considering that Henry was born in 1850, his father wouold have been born in New York around 1825 or so, and Henry's grandfather may have been born in Northern Ireland or in Pennsylvania sometime around 1800.
Found in a group of marriage records for Toronto in 1851 is this rather prejudicial announcement:
"21 September, 1850, by license, James MITCHELL, of Toronto, bachelor, and Eliza Jane REA, of the same place, spinster." Yet another Rea woman is found in the same list: "21 January, 1857, by license, Robert SPEERS, of Toronto, bachelor, and Mary Anne REA, of the same place, spinster." I have no idea who Eliza Jane or Mary Anne were, but it adds further confirmantion that there were Reas in Toronto at the time...."spinsters" or otherwise. ;)
Also found was this: "5 June, 1844, by license, James REA, of the city of Toronto, widower, and Sarah HARROWN, of the same place, widow."
Other possible Rea connections in Ontario include Thomas Rea and his sons, who were 1829 settlers of Reaboro, Victoria County, Ontario, which is not far from Toronto. Thomas Rea was on the Township Council of nearby Lindsay, as well, in 1850.
