| Notes |
- Samuel moved with his family to Canton Township in 1809. At that time, Canton consisted of three or four houses. They remained there until 1814, when the family moved to Tuscarawas Township and settled on an 80 acre tract. Samuel's father died there in 1816. At the age of 21 Samuel left home and worked for some time on the Ohio Canal and, in 1828 located to Sugar Creek Township, where became a respected member of the community and was still living as of 1881. His farm there consisted of 91 1/2 acres. Samuel married Susan Swigart on September 23, 1823. Samuel was a Republican and a member of the Reformed Church.
