  Sarah does not appear on the passenger manifest of the National Line ship on which her family emmigrated from Norway, so my theory is that she was probably born at sea and, in fact, her birth may have been the cause or a contributing factor to the death of her mother, Anna. According to my grandmother's notes, Anna died while the ship was at anchor in New York harbor, during a two week quarrantine. So, if Sarah was born at that point in the voyage, it would not be unusual for her to have been the first child in the family given an Americanized name.
